An ex-air stewardess from Croydon has been banged up in Sri Lanka after allegedly trying to smuggle £1.2million of cannabis into the South Asian State. Charlotte May Lee, 21, from Coulsdon, was detained on Monday (May 12) at Bandaranaike International Airport in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo.

She had arrived from Thailand on a flight from Bangkok with cops claiming they’ve confiscated 46kg of kush – a potent strain of skunk – hidden in her luggage, allegedly the largest-ever confiscation of its kind at the airport. A source has claimed the dope was for “high-end local buyers,” reports The Standard.

Lee is in custody as Sri Lanka’s Police Narcotics Bureau carries out inquiries. The British Foreign Office said: “We are supporting a British woman who has been arrested in Sri Lanka and are in contact with her family and the local authorities.”

Her friend said she’d sent an alleged Snapchat video shot from custody, where she briefly films herself and says she is fine. The same friend said Lee was in Thailand last month to celebrate her 21st, but had gone back to Blighty and left again without saying why.

A clip from her TikTok account on Monday – the day she was nabbed – showed her flying over an island on a plane, which she’d tagged as Bangkok. It comes just days after Bella May Culley, 18, was arrested in Georgia after allegedly smuggling herbal cannabis and hash into Tbilisi international airport.

She is accused of trying to bring in “34 hermetically sealed packages containing marijuana… as well as 20 packages of hashish.”
