Transport for London (TfL) has revealed that the father of the 14-year-old boy killed on his way to school in Hainault on Tuesday (April 30) is one of its employees. MyLondon understands that he has worked for the city’s transport authority during a 20 year career.

Andy Lord, TfL’s commissioner, said this afternoon that he and other staff are ‘devastated’, and that officials are working with the Met to do all they can to support Daniel Anjorin’s family. The boy was killed on his way to school earlier this week.

His family said earlier today that his loss ‘leaves a gaping wound’. Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, who was Tasered and arrested at the scene, was yesterday (May 1) charged with Daniel’s murder.

Today, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard how Monzo is alleged to have ran up behind the teenager before slashing his neck and stabbing him in the chest as he lay on the ground.

Andy Lord, London’s Transport Commissioner, said: “We are devastated that one of our colleagues, and their family, are grieving the appalling loss of their son after the horrific attack in Hainault yesterday. We are working with the Metropolitan Police Service to provide every assistance and whatever support we can to our colleague and their family in such tragic circumstances.”

A ‘wonderful, well loved and hardworking boy’

Daniel’s devastated family also told Sky News that he was a ‘wonderful’, ‘well loved’, ‘hardworking’ boy. “No family should have to go through what we are experiencing today,” they added, “Any family will understand it’s an absolute tragedy.”

Flowers have been left at the scene, many with notes. One read: “RIP Little Angel” Headteacher Simon Marshall of Daniel’s school Bancroft’s penned a letter to parents in the wake of Daniel’s killing.

According to the BBC, he described the teenager as a ‘much-loved’ member of the school, and added: “I had been intending to write to you once the news has become public, but I understand that many within our community may already be aware of events yesterday.

“It is therefore with great sadness and shock that I am writing to inform you of the tragic death of Daniel Anjorin, one of our pupils. Our thoughts and prayers at this moment are with Daniel’s family and friends.

“More details will be forthcoming over the coming hours and days, but for now, our focus is on supporting the members of our community and particularly those who knew Daniel well.”

The statement went on: “It seems scarcely believable that less than a year on from the terrible death of Grace O’Malley-Kumar in the Nottingham attacks we are facing fresh sorrow.”
