A fan unexpectedly joined Sir David Beckham for a snap while he was out celebrating his knighthood with his mum. Pesh Kapashiawala couldn’t resist the chance to grab a selfie when he spotted Becks through the window of Tony’s, a pie and mash shop in Waltham Abbey, on the border of North London, where Sir David was marking his recent accolade on Monday (June 16).

Mr Kapashiawala, from the foodbank charity 3Food4U, remarked: “We spotted him in there and we just thought to see if he would have a word with us. We wanted to congratulate him on his knighthood and see if he would support us with our project.”

He noted that one of the diners was Sir David’s mother Sandra, acknowledging it was a personal moment between them.

Mr Kapashiawala reflected: “I felt really bad afterwards thinking I had disturbed his special moment. He is a true gentleman and spent a few moments with us to talk about our charity and his award.”

Despite the interruption, Mr Kapashiawala praised the star for being “very generous” with his time discussing the foodbank charity.

He said: “He gets disturbed all the time but ultimately he is still a person and we appreciate him. He did allow us to take a selfie with him.” Sir David was reportedly impressed by their work, promising to get in touch with their centre next time he’s in the area.

Mr Kapashiawala expressed his admiration for Beckham: “David Beckham is somebody I have grown up with. He is a hero and somebody that I absolutely look up to anyway – a great role model within the community and the sports arena.”

He added: “With David we were very grateful it did click and maybe it will lead to some opportunities to us as well.”
