A common hot drink many of us enjoy before bed could actually have a positive impact on your sex life, as it can put us in a good mood before bed and could even enhance stamina
If you need something to get you in the mood, try this hot drink.
We all know that certain foods can give you an array of health benefits, from things that help keep your skin looking youthful to foods that reduce the risk of cancer. But did you know there’s one common bedtime drink that can improve your sex life? According to experts, enjoying a hot chocolate before you get into bed with your partner could have a positive impact on your performance – as it could enhance your stamina.
What’s more, it turns out a hot chocolate is also the most popular pre-sex drink among adults according to a new survey. Almost 1 in 5 (19%) people said they love the warm chocolatey drink before sex, matching the number of people who also said they never get busy without first having a cup of tea.
The data was compiled by married couples dating site Illicit Encounters, who asked 2,000 adults if they had a favourite drink before sex. While hot chocolate and English breakfast tea both topped the poll at 19%, another 12% said they enjoy something alcoholic before sex, while a cup of warm milk was fourth at 10% as respondents confessed it helps them relax.
Peppermint tea, chamomile tea, and coffee also made the cut, as well as a bizarre 5% of respondents who said they love nothing more than a cup of beefy Bovril before sex. Another 5% confessed they like to make sure they’re hydrated before any strenuous activity, as they said they opt for a glass of water.
Illicit Encounters spokeswoman Jessica Leoni said she wasn’t shocked to see hot chocolate top the poll, as she said there is “something deliciously erotic” about the drink. She added: “Chocolate’s an aphrodisiac so a late night cup makes perfect sense.”
And Jessica is right – chocolate really can help improve your sex life thanks to its powers as an aphrodisiac. The sweet treat contains an amino acid known as L-arginine that amplifies sensation and sensitivity during intimacy. Chocolate can help enhance blood flow and direct nitric oxide to erogenous zones, which heightens touch sensitivity.
While most hot chocolate mixtures are made with milk chocolate powder, if you want to maximise your sexual prowess using chocolate then you’re better off with dark chocolate. This is because dark chocolate boasts higher L-arginine content, giving it the power to help lower blood pressure and improve heart health – which in turn can give you enhanced stamina for longer-lasting intimate sessions.
Beyond all the scientific benefits chocolate can have on our sex lives, sweet treats just mentally put us in a good mood – which is great for feeling good in the bedroom. Chocolate contains Phenylethylamine (PEA), also known as the “romance chemical”, which induces feelings of euphoria and attraction.
