Ants can be a nightmare if they invade your home especially as the weather starts to get warmer – but there’s a cheap way to banish them permanently from your home
As the weather gets warmer it means we can start to venture outside – however, it also means pesky bugs will venture into your home too, including ants.
The issue with ants is that there’s never just one. They come as an army and it can become a huge and painstaking battle to try and get rid of them. If they start to enter your home, it usually means they’re on the lookout for food and water, so keeping food cleared from your table tops and floors is crucial.
However if you do spot them, fans of Mrs Hinch have shared the one item they always reach for to remove them – talcum powder – and the nifty trick to keep the small invaders out costs less than £2.
The beauty staple costs just £1.75 from Poundland and it works wonders in banishing ants from your home easily. Talc is effective as the powder deters ants as it breaks their pheromone trail. The powder then gets absorbed by their skin, which will then clog up their airways.
This trick came after a woman took to the Mrs Hinch fans group to ask fellow cleaning enthusiasts: “How can I get rid of ants in the house please?” As reported by The Express. One cleaning guru wrote: “Talcum powder all around the house. Works really well,” as another suggested the same and said: “Talcum powder inside and out. Renew if it gets wet and also every few days sweep the area and go again.”
This was echoed by a third: “Talc [is the] cheapest and most effective.” Karen Beckham agreed and posted: “Talcum powder works every time,” and a fourth suggested: “Talc definitely works. Tried it this week and no ants coming in just trailed it across the door and left it all week.”
Other cleaning fans in the group gave other suggestions which included peppermint oil, cinnamon, and white vinegar. “I did a spray bottle. Put water, a couple of drops of washing-up liquid and peppermint oil. Sprays them dead in a second,” one woman shared.
You can buy talc for £1.75 from Poundland, Sensitive Talc for £1.25 from Waitrose and Medipure Medicated Body Powder for £1 from Savers.
