A woman has died at a London hospital after suffering severe injuries in a dog attack, police have confirmed. The tragic incident unfolded in Essex, at a property in Southend on the evening of July 29.
After being called to Retort Close in Southend at around 11:30 pm by paramedics, Essex Police reported that the woman received initial treatment onsite before her transfer to the Royal London Hospital where she desperately fought for her life.
Despite extensive efforts by medical personnel, the woman passed away early Wednesday, July 31. Police are not pursuing other suspects related to this event, and preparations are underway for an inquest.

In response to the attack, two dogs were removed from the property, with one suspected to have been directly involved. Details regarding the future of the seized dogs are yet to be disclosed, as well as their breed, reports Essex Live.
Detective Superintendent Gary Biddle offered his condolences, stating: “Our deepest sympathies are with the family of the woman involved at this time. While our investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident continues, we would ask that the privacy of the woman’s family is respected.”
There has been a 21 per cent increase in dog attacks in the UK in the past year, according to an investigation by the BBC. 30,539 offences of an out-of-control dog causing injury to a person or guide dog were recorded across the UK by police in 2023.
