A 68-year-old driver has been arrested after a cyclist was killed in a crash on Old Kent Road on Friday (November 21). Police are appealing to the public for more information on the incident.
He was arrested by police a short while later on suspicion of dangerous driving, after he “failed to stop” at the scene of the incident. He has been released on bail while police carry out enquiries.
The 34-year-old cyclist was killed after a car collided with him on Old Kent Road, near the junction with Dunton Road at around 6.55am. He was treated at the scene before he sadly died.
His next of kin have been informed, and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge, from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “An investigation is underway, and officers are working to establish what happened.
“I’m appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or who may have captured footage of it on their dashcam, to please contact us as soon as possible.”
