Driver Liv Bedford recalled a ‘petrifying’ situation she endured late at night in a car park recently, and has urged all other women to lock the doors as soon as they step into their vehicles
A woman who was subjected to a terrifying experience in her own vehicle has issued a warning to other female drivers. Liv Bedford took to TikTok to stress the importance of locking your car doors to protect yourself from potential intruders and serious harm.
“This is your sign to always lock your car doors as soon as you get in,” she began in a video posted on TikTok. Visibly distressed, Liv explained her horrifying ordeal: “A couple of nights ago I was walking to my car, it was late at night and pouring down with rain – it was pitch black so I was running to my car.”
After sitting down in her vehicle and locking the doors as she always does, Liv said she was met by the sight of a man standing by her driver’s window. “He was pulling on my door handle,” she said.
Admitting she didn’t know what to do next as it “all happened so fast”, Liv said she sped off as fast she could. “Thank God I reversed into that space that morning… when I tell you I was petrified, I was petrified – I called my dad and told him to wait by the door when I got home.”
Since her ordeal, Liv explained a “million different things” have been running through her head as to how the experience could have played out differently had she not locked her doors in time.
“I’m really trying not to spiral,” she confessed. “I carry a designer handbag with me and I’m hoping that was just what he wanted – I need to tell myself that he was just planning to take things from me and not take me.”
Liv closed by telling her followers she has reported the incident to police, but she has since been told that CCTV in the vicinity wasn’t working at the time and therefore he is unlikely to be identified.
“I’ve written a statement and they said they are going to try and find out a little bit more about what happened,” she added. “But honestly, please let this be your sign to lock your doors as soon as you get into your car because f*** knows what could have happened if I didn’t.”
Liv reiterated: “If I didn’t reverse into that space and lock my doors immediately, it could have been a whole different story. I feel sick thinking about it, I think I am still in shock.”
Writing in response, one female TikTok user concurred with the advice, penning: “As a woman i always reverse into a space, and lock my doors and it’s the first thing I teach my kids when they learn to drive.”

A second added: “It was drummed into me as soon as I got a car ALWAYS lock the door when you get into the car!”
A third woman exclaimed: “Always reverse. Always lock doors – car and home. Park in a well lit safe area and you don’t stop in an isolated area for the police OR comply with a solo male police officer. We shouldn’t have to do this.”
A fourth TikTok user said: “It happened to my mum in Morrisons she never used to lock her car door. Someone opened her passenger door and stole her handbag and and phone. She always tell us to lock the doors now.”
