The ‘A’ engine button is a feature found in most modern cars, but many motorists are still unaware of its capabilities. Experts are now urging drivers to be aware of the button
Some motorists are only just discovering that there’s a dashboard button which can instantly slash your fuel expenses. Whilst contemporary vehicles are packed with buttons, switches and gauges that can seem overwhelming at times, there are several worth familiarising yourself with as they can save you considerable money over time – not just the air conditioning recirculation button.
Swansway Motor Group is now encouraging drivers to learn about a button that can cut your petrol and diesel expenditure every time you get behind the wheel. With average petrol and diesel prices still lingering around peaks of £1.45-£1.50 at most filling stations, there’s never been a more opportune moment to economise on fuel.

The button typically resembles an ‘A’ with a small circular arrow and is generally positioned somewhere on or around the steering wheel, reports the Express.
The button automatically turns off the engine when the vehicle comes to a halt, then restarts it once you lift your foot from the brake pedal.
This proves beneficial whilst stuck in congested traffic or at traffic lights, as it dramatically reduces the amount of fuel you squander during these periods, thereby lowering your petrol and diesel expenses.
Swansway Motor Group stated: “Dashboards are often full of buttons which mean very little to drivers, but motor experts are alerting drivers of one small button which could save them plenty of fuel. Swansway explains that the small button on your dashboard with a small circular arrow or ‘A’ symbol is a feature known as the engine auto stop/start function.
“The button, which aids in enhancing fuel economy and minimising emissions, automatically powers down the engine when a vehicle comes to a complete halt. As soon as you lift your foot off the brake to move again, the engine reignites.”
This nifty little button can be switched off and on at the driver’s discretion, potentially saving you fuel when stationary at traffic lights or stop signs.
“With fuel prices on the up, the auto stop/start function is a small button with a significant purpose. Drivers stand to benefit from fuel savings and a reduction in their vehicles’ harmful emissions, which is beneficial for everyone.”
