Cleaning fans on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page recommend one simple method to dry laundry quickly without expensive tumble dryers or causing condensation and mould.
The most annoying part about washing clothes has to be getting them dry, especially during winter months when hanging them outside isn’t possible.
The obvious answer is to use tumble dryers or place items on radiators – both costly solutions that many people can’t afford to rely on.
Placing wet garments on radiators can easily create issues when dampness from the washing harms surrounding wall paint. This leaves a lot of people wondering how to prevent condensation and mould appearing on their windows.
Whilst using a clothes horse is a practical choice, one cleaning enthusiast on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group was frustrated by how slowly laundry dried on them.
She posted: “What is the best way to dry clothes when washed please as my normal airer is just not drying them quickly enough?”
Other group members suggested she combine her clothes horse with a dehumidifier and choose an additional spin cycle in her washing machine, reports the Express.
A dehumidifier extracts dampness from the atmosphere and your clothes to accelerate the drying process without mould developing due to excessive moisture in the air.
Position your washing on a drying rack, switch on your dehumidifier and your items will dry quickly.
One person commented: “Extra spin in the washing machine and then on airer with dehumidifier works the best.”
Another posted: “Dehumidifier. Best thing I bought for drying the clothes.”
A third said: “I got a dehumidifier. I can dry two wash loads in four hours – 4p an hour to run. Thought about it for ages as not cheap, but seriously worth getting one.”
Someone else suggested: “I do a double spin in the machine first and use a winged airer with a cover and put the dehumidifier underneath. Dries really quick. Even towels.”
It’s a smart move to give your laundry an extra spin at the end of the cycle to get rid of any excess moisture and water. As well as this, give your laundry a good shake when you take it out from the machine, for added aeration.
