East London chase ends after fleeing driver smashes into Met Police car with 2 officers rushed to hospital

Two Metropolitan Police officers have been taken to hospital following a police chase on the A12 in East London yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, June 10). The pursuit began shortly after 4.20pm when a car made off from police in Cathall Road, Leytonstone.

The force confirmed the chase was brought to a stop when the car collided with a police vehicle near Green Man Roundabout just before 4.40pm.

The driver, along with two passengers, suffered injuries in the crash but was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. None of their injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Scotland Yard has confirmed one of the injured officers is believed to have suffered a fractured arm in the crash. Footage circulating on social media appears to show a white Volvo travelling the wrong way along the A12 in the moments before the incident.

In the aftermath of the crash videos from the scene show the front and right side bumper of the police car suffered severe damage.

The full Metropolitan Police statement reads: “At approximately 4.22pm on Tuesday, June 10 a pursuit was authorised after a car made off from police on Cathall Road, E11. At approximately 4.38pm, the car collided with a police vehicle on the A12 near the Green Man Roundabout, E11.

“The London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and London’s Air Ambulance attended.

“The driver and two passengers of the car were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“The driver of the car has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

“Two officers were also taken to hospital, one with a suspected fractured arm. Enquiries continue.”
