A man “armed with a knife” who stabbed a stranger to death on a night out in East London has been convicted for his crimes. After the attack he repeatedly kicked his victim as they tried to escape from him, before collapsing on the street.

Hamza Kamali, 29, of Henniker Road, Stratford, was found guilty at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, July 22 of murdering 38-year-old Saley Beya outside a nightclub on Romford Road in the early hours of Saturday, August 10 last year, as well as possession of a weapon. He will be sentenced at the same court on Thursday (July 24).

Saley and his friends had been at a nightclub on Romford Road when an altercation began between one of the group and another group of men known to Kamali. He arrived at the scene and after getting into a fight with Saley, stabbed him in the leg.

He then kicked Saley several times as he tried to get away from him, before giving up and returning to Romford Road before leaving with the others. Saley, who had collapsed in the street, went into cardiac arrest while being rushed to hospital. He remained in a critical condition for nearly three weeks before he died in hospital on August 29.

Kamali returned to his home, emerging after 30 minutes in a different outfit and carrying a full plastic bag which he discarded and was never recovered. Bloodstained trainers were found by police at his house when they went to arrest him on August 16.

Kamali, who had a hand injury, was also seen tending to this on CCTV following the stabbing.

Blood from this injury was also found at the crime scene – it is believed he injured himself with his knife while attacking Saley.

Abdi Ulusow, 28, of Hathaway Crescent E12 and Edson Bernardo, 26, of Carlton Avenue, Westcliff-on-Sea appeared at the Old Bailey on July 3 where they pleaded guilty to affray and possession of an offensive weapon, machete and pole, in connection with the incident.

Both will also be sentenced at the same court on July 24.
