A man is in hospital with a head injury following a violent assault at Mile End station last night (June 20). He was attacked in the ticket line just before 11.30pm, with police, paramedics and a doctor rushing to the Tube stop minutes later.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, according to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police. The force is now investigating the shocking incident but is yet to make an arrest in connection.
Officers shut the station for almost 12 hours whilst enquiries were made, only reopening it at 10.30am today. Commuters were unable to board the Central, District and Hammersmith & City lines for much of the morning as a result.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Mile End Underground station at around 11.30pm yesterday (20 July) following reports of a man being assaulted at the ticket line. Officers attended, alongside paramedics, and a man was taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing. Enquiries are ongoing.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11.26pm on Sunday 20 July to reports of an assault on Mile End Road, E3. We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a paramedic from our tactical response unit.
“We also dispatched a trauma team in car from London’s Air Ambulance, which consisted of a paramedic and a doctor in a car. We treated a man for a head injury and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
