Supermarkets will be changing their opening times for the long Easter weekend – here is what you need to know about Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, M&S and Waitrose opening times
The long Easter weekend means the major supermarkets will be changing their opening hours – so shoppers should be aware of when their local shop will be open.
There are two bank holidays to note down in your diary. Good Friday falls on March 29 this year, followed by Easter Sunday on March 31 and then Easter Monday on April 1. Shop opening times may be different on these days.
But keep in mind our guide below is only a rough indication of when stores will be open. You should check online using each store’s postcode checker tool to see the exact opening times of your nearest store.
Aldi
Aldi stores in England and Wales will be open from 8am to 10pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. Its stores in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday, but branches in Scotland will remain open.
Aldi said its stores will open once again on Easter Monday but they will close at 8pm that day.
Asda
Most larger Asda stores will be open 7am until 10pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday, including its smaller Express convenience stores. Then on Easter Sunday, its larger supermarkets in England and Wales will be shut.
Its stores in Scotland will remain open on Easter Sunday, as will most Asda Express convenience stores. The majority of Asda shops will be open again between 7am and 10pm on Easter Monday.
Lidl
Lidl stores will be open on Good Friday. Most stores we checked today will typically be open between 8am until 8pm, and then from 8am until 10pm on Saturday.
Its shops will then be closed on Easter Sunday in England and Wales, however they will remain open in Scotland. All stores will be open on Easter Monday – again, most say they will be open from 8am until 8pm on this day.
M&S
M&S stores will be open as usual on Good Friday and Saturday, with the majority opening between 8am and 8pm. Most stores will be closed on Easter Sunday in England and Wales, however, a small number of stores will be open 9am-6pm.
Scotland stores will remain open on Easter Sunday. Then on Easter Monday, most M&S stores will be open from 8am until 8pm. Again, check the opening times of your local M&S to see exactly when it will open this weekend.
Morrisons
Morrisons’ larger stores will be open on Easter Friday, although some will have reduced opening hours. When we checked today, some shops said they will be open from 7am until 10pm. Opening times will then go back to normal on Easter Saturday.
Then on Easter Sunday, larger stores in England and Wales will shut for the day – but in Scotland, they will remain open. Morrisons’ smaller Daily convenience stores will also be open. If you need to visit your local Morrisons on Easter Monday, shops will be open again, although some will have shorter hours.
Sainsbury’s
The majority of Sainsbury’s stores will be open 7am until 10pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. Its smaller convenience stores will be open from 7am to 10pm. Sainsbury’s supermarkets in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday.
But stores in Scotland will remain open on Easter Sunday, and convenience stores will be open as usual from 7am to 10pm. On Easter bank holiday Monday, most Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be open 8am and 8pm and convenience stores will be open from 7am to 10pm.
Tesco
Tesco stores will be open on Good Friday although some may have adjusted opening times. For example, some stores in England and Wales will be open from 8am to 6pm, before returning to normal hours on the Saturday.
On Easter Sunday, all larger stores in England and Wales will be closed, but its Scotland stores will remain open. The vast majority of Tesco Express stores will remain open on Easter Sunday.
Tesco stores will be open on Easter Monday, but again, larger branches may be operating reduced hours. Express stores will be open as normal on Easter Monday.
Waitrose
Waitrose shoppers are in luck, as stores will be open on Easter Friday and Easter Saturday. Some stores may be open under reduced opening times on Easter Friday – for example, some will be open from 8am until 8pm.
Then on Easter Sunday, stores will close in England and Wales. If you’re in Scotland, stores will remain open on Easter Sunday. You’ll find Waitrose stores are scheduled to be open on Easter Monday, but again, some may have shorter hours.
