It can be tough to know how best to store Easter eggs, especially when you’ve opened the box or eagerly torn the foil – but an expert has shared his best tips for storage
Easter eggs are undoubtedly delicious, but where should you store them when you’ve opened them and can’t finish it all?
If you have a large amount of self control, you might have some chocolate left after tucking in on Easter Sunday. So what do you do with the leftovers? Some would argue that it’s best to put them in the fridge, but Easter egg expert Tim Kelly, 33, advises against it.
He warns it can cause “blooming”, which is when the “surface of the chocolate goes white” – which is less than desirable. It also makes the “texture funny” in the chocolate, which isn’t ideal. But when the Easter egg has opened and you want to save it for a rainy day, where should you store it? Tim revealed all…
Tim, who has the dream job of tasting Easter eggs for Morrisons, exclusively told The Mirror: “I would suggest people keep them in their original packaging and don’t open them until they want to eat them and store them in a cool dry place.”
But, if you have opened the egg and just can’t manage to finish it, don’t worry, there are ways to store it – and one replicates the way that some Easter eggs come packaged anyway. Tim suggested: “I would suggest storing them in a container that doesn’t allow Iight in and is something that replicates being in the original box.
“Our Easter eggs aren’t wrapped in foil, but that is a way to keep them nice and contained. If they’re in foil, keep them in their original foil, so by that logic, foil is a perfect storage for them.” You likely have foil in your kitchen cupboards already, but if not, foil can be purchased from Tesco for £1.40, Morrisons for £1.50, or Waitrose for £1.60.
Tim also shared that there’s “no right way” to tuck into an Easter egg, but he admitted: “I just go for it. I quite like the randomness of it, because sometimes you want a big piece, sometimes you want a little piece, and then you get the crumbs at the bottom.”
If you want to try the range Tim worked on, it can be purchased from Morrisons. You can try the Best Belgian Dark Chocolate With Pink Himalayan Salt, the Best White Dark Chocolate & Butterscotch Salted Egg, the Best Milk & Blonde Chocolate, Caramel, Pretzel & Honeycomb, the Best Belgian White & Blonde Chocolate Easter Egg and the Best Belgian Milk Chocolate & Orange Easter Egg, all for just £5.
