As Brits prepare for the spring renovations, Sort Your Life Out star Stacey Solomon has revealed a £1.03 trick that effortlessly peels off stubborn wallpaper in seconds
With the spring house renovations underway, Stacey Solomon has shared a nifty trick for lifting wallpaper effortlessly in a recent episode of Sort Your Life Out on BBC One.
This week, the TV icon visited Haslemere in Surrey to help Shirley and Martin transform their chaotic home into a clutter-free zone. The couple, who adopted their two grown-up children Katherine and Sarah, have struggled to part ways with their old belongings since they moved out. Shirley said: “Over the years, you find that you keep everything and we don’t ever like throwing things away. We do miss them because their things are there in their rooms, it makes it feel like they’re still here.”
Sarah confessed: “It wasn’t until I was making a home of my own, that I really realised how cluttered the house was, because this was always just normal for me growing up.” While Stacey and her trusty team tackled the chaotic home, cleaning expert Iwan Carrington got to work on the outdated wallpaper.
If you don’t have access to a wallpaper steamer, Iwan suggests soaking a paint roller in a bucket of hot water. He continued: “What you do is, take a cutlery fork and use that to score lines in your wallpaper. Then roll on the water to get that wallpaper soaking.” He then effortlessly pulled the wallpaper from the wall, adding: “It just comes off like a dream.” Shoppers can pick up a paint roller for as little as £1.03 from Amazon or bag the product for £1.50 from B&Q.
Later in the episode, Iwan turned his attention to the garage and used a kitchen cupboard essential to bring Martin’s neglected workbench back to life. He said: “So all this rust on Martin’s clamp, we can get off with a bit of screwed-up tinfoil.” Using a little bit of elbow grease, the expert managed to easily lift all the rust from the equipment, as he quipped: “It’s like a magic eraser.” But Iwan’s helpful household hacks didn’t stop there, as he also revealed a simple way to spruce up supermarket flowers.
“I’ve got a £4 bunch of roses here that I got from the shops and I’m going to make them look like the posh ones you get from the florists,” he said. Iwan explained that he starts by removing all of the leaves from the stem, as well as the outer petals. With the rose facing downwards, he placed the stem in between the palm of his hands and gave the flower a gentle spin, which opened up the petals. Admiring the beautiful display, Iwan concluded: “Suddenly, it’s like one of those £8 roses you see at the really posh department stores.”
