Eid ul-Fitr 2024 will now be on Wednesday, April 10, it has been confirmed. Saudi Arabia has said the crescent moon was not this evening (Monday, April 8). This means that the celebrations have been delayed for Wednesday.

Astronomers have been looking for the crescent moon that determines the end of Ramadan and the start of Shawwal. The negative moonsighting, meaning no crescent moon can be seen, confirmed the date.

This means Muslims across the world will fast for one more day on Tuesday before celebrating Eid on Wednesday.

Likewise, the UK astronomical data agency, HM Almanac Office, said earlier: “It is unlikely that any sort of sighting of the crescent moon will be possible on April 8th from the Middle East, North Africa, the United Kingdom and the eastern seaboard of the United States in particular.”

In London, the biggest Eid ul-Fitr festival will take place at both Westfield sites in White City and Stratford. It will be from April 12 to 14 in West London and April 19 to 21 in East London.

Meanwhile, London’s free, annual festival will return this month to Trafalgar Square for the 19th year to celebrate the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. It’ll take place on Saturday, April 20 from 12pm to 6pm.
