Eid ul-Fitr 2024 UK, Saudi Arabia and Morocco moon sighting times for today

Eid ul-Fitr is nearly upon us this year. The moon was not sighting on Monday night, meaning that it will likely be sighted this evening (Tuesday, April 9). This will mark the beginning of Eid tomorrow and the start of Shawwal.

In London, the biggest Eid al-Fitr festival will take place at both Westfield sites in White City and Stratford. It will be from April 12 to 14 in West London and April 19 to 21 in East London.

Meanwhile, returning for its 19th year, London’s free annual festival will once more fill Trafalgar Square. This year’s celebration is set to take place on Saturday, April 20th, running from midday until 6pm.

In Mecca, as the sun dips below the horizon at 6.38pm on Tuesday, April 9, the moon will appear at 7.30pm. Over in Rabat, Morocco, sunset is will be at 6.55pm with the moonset at 8.04pm. In London, sunset will be 7.47pm and moonset will be 9.14pm.

On Wednesday, April 10, Mecca will see the sun set at 6.39pm and the moon disappear at 8.36pm. In Rabat, the sun will set at 6.55pm and the moon at 9.17pm. In London, sunset will be 7.49pm and moonset will be 10.46pm.

Times across the UK are broadly the same.

With these times in mind and predictions that the moon will be ‘easily visible’ on both April 9 and April 10, experts reckon Eid could very well fall on either April 10 or 11.
