The pair were found guilty alongside a woman today (October 6)
Two drug dealers from Enfield have been found guilty of attempted murder after a man was lured to a flat and shot in the leg. Amir Mahamud, 27 and Hamidreza Nasiri, 30, of Garfield Road and Holbrook Close, respectively, attacked the victim in Waltham Abbey on November 24, 2024.
He had been told to come to the market town’s Howard Close by 41-year-old Margit Knap, unaware others were waiting to strike. Minutes later, he was ambushed as he entered the housing block.
Managing to escape to his car, the victim bled out as he drove away and crashed nearby. While Knap was arrested at the scene, Nasiri and Mahamud were apprehended on November 26, 2024 and January 21, 2025.
They were today (October 6) convicted of attempted murder and possession of a firearm. Detectives also learned the pair’s mobile phones were used to deal drugs, with dozens of messages regarding the supply of Class A and B drugs uncovered during the investigation.
Mahamud has also been found guilty of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and cocaine, with Nasiri previously pleading guilty to these same offences. Both have been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at Basildon Crown Court on Friday, October 10.
Knap was found guilty of assisting in the commission of an offence involving serious violence, and released on conditional bail.
Speaking after the verdict, Detective Sergeant David Crane, of Essex Police, said: “The victim in this case was lured to the scene. He could have been killed.
“Nasiri and Mahamud knew this was a possibility when they conspired to bring a firearm to the address that day, and did so anyway. The shooting took place on a residential street during daylight hours endangering the safety of the public.
“We are glad that the jury have agreed with our investigation and the prosecution, and we await the sentencing of these defendants. I would like to praise the members of public who came forward to assist us with this case and also my team of detectives who have worked tirelessly to bring these individuals to justice.”
