A bride was baffled when a casual acquaintance showed up to her big day and made the ultimate wedding guest faux pas – but she still managed to get the last laugh
A bride was stunned when a guest showed up at her wedding committing the ultimate guest faux pas: wearing white. There’s many etiquette rules and traditions that have fallen out of favour at weddings, but wearing white to someone else’s big day remains a big no-no.
Guests who show up to a wedding ceremony in white are often a cause of negative discussion, with many people in disbelief over the blunder. One woman got a shock on her wedding day when a very loose acquaintance arrived in a floor length, white dress.
The bride managed to see the funny side though – especially when others were quick to point out her resemblance to all manner of objects and food items, with some of the belief the dress made her look like a wedding cake.
Taking to Reddit, the newlywed posted a carousel of three images of the offending guest – captured by her wedding photographer – which shows her dancing and enjoying the occasion while wearing a ruffled white dress.
In the caption accompanying the images, the bride penned: “A girlfriend of a friend of my husband’s brother wore white to my wedding. I have only met her a few times before this.
“I wasn’t upset, I just thought it was funny that this ACTUALLY happened. Seems to be pretty common these days. Maybe it’s a sign of good luck?? My photographer got some great shots.”
In the comments section, fellow Reddit users were keen to share their thoughts with many making comparisons between the dress and all manner of items.
One person said: “At least she dressed as the wedding cake”.
Another said: “Lol she should make that a tag in Facebook for those pictures, ‘look! Someone was so excited to be at my wedding that they dressed up as a wedding cake!’”
A third commented: “The bravery to wear such an ugly dress is worthy of applause.”
Someone else said: “She looks like a caterpillar to me.”
Another replied: “I was thinking grandma’s spare roll of toilet paper cover.”
And another said: “Leaning Tower of Pisa here”, while one person simply quipped: “Jellyfish”.
Another Reddit user said: “It’s a good thing she dressed as a Wacky Waving Inflatable Tube Guy”.
One person was impressed by the bride’s approach to the situation and said: “I love your attitude about this. ‘Must be good luck!’ instead of ‘what the f*** imma fight this girl’”.
Someone else praised the photographer’s efforts: “Oh you know that photographer was on a mission to get ALL the shots of this disaster! Hahaha”.
Another noticed the guest’s shoes appeared to be a little too small for her, with her toes visibly splaying over the edge of her shoe.
They simply shared: “I’m ngl [not gonna lie], the shoes are the craziest part of the whole getup”.
And one Reddit user couldn’t understand the psychology behind a person’s decision to wear white to a wedding: “I truly don’t understand why women do this. What’s the draw? Everyone knows this is tacky AF, even the women who do it.
“So…. why?! Is it their subconscious desire to be a bride? Do they like being hated? Is it the only item of clothing they own? I don’t understand the psychology of it.”
