Erith fire live as firefighters warn ‘keep windows and doors shut’ as thick smoke seen for miles

A fire in an industrial yard in Erith is causing thick black smoke this morning (Wednesday, June 4). Residents are being told to keep their windows and doors shut while firefighters respond to the blaze which began at around 4am.

Several vehicles and outbuildings are currently on fire at the industrial yard in Manor Road. London Fire Brigade has asked people in the area to keep their doors and windows shut due to the large amount of smoke the fire is producing.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters responding to the fire. Firefighters have deployed a Hose Layer and High Volume Pump, to increase the amount of water available for firefighting operations.

The Brigade received the first of over 20 calls reporting the fire. Crews from Plumstead, Erith, Bexley and surrounding fire stations are at the scene. Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
