A heady cocktail of glitter, incredible performances and national pride, Eurovision unites around 180 million viewers around the world in a warm sea of goodwill. In short, it’s a lot of fun really, isn’t it? Just the tonic needed in these troubled times.
And tonight, in Malmö, Sweden, all our eyes will be on pop star, actor and LGBT+ activist Olly Alexander as he flies the UK flag with his poptastic song Dizzy. The 33-year-old, known to many as the frontman of the Years & Years as well as star of hit Channel 4 drama It’s A Sin, is justifiably very proud of the high energy pop track. The danceable ditty is inspired by the club classics of yesteryear, complete with lilting harmonies and infectious synth lines evoking such pop stalwarts as Erasure or the Pet Shop Boys.
