With the weather getting warmer, the temptation to enjoy a drink in a pub garden is becoming hard to ignore – but when is the best time to enjoy a pint outdoors?
You might have to skip the beer garden this Bank Holiday weekend.
Arguably one of the best things about the spring and summer months is the warm weather allowing us to spend more time outside in the sunshine. And let’s face it, for many of us that involves enjoying a cold and refreshing beer or cider in a pub garden, perhaps even with a few nibbles if we’re feeling a bit fancy.
But with this spring getting off to a pretty miserable start, the weather hasn’t quite been warm enough to enjoy a pint outdoors and many of us are itching to get out there. According to new data, however, there’s a science to the perfect time to sit outside with a drink – and there’s an exact date we should be doing it for every region of the UK.
The data was compiled by ready-to-drink cocktail brand NIO Cocktails, and it reveals the exact date when it becomes acceptable to have a drink outside. After reviewing weather patterns across the UK’s capital cities, the drinks brand has pin-pointed the exact dates when the weather will begin to turn so that Brits can start enjoying an alfresco tipple, Wales Online reports.
To determine the dates which offer the perfect weather conditions to enjoy a drink outdoors, NIO Cocktails estimated the dates which will offer a warm, dry day with low winds. This included making sure the average temperature would be above 18 degrees Celcius, the average rainfall below one millimetre, and the average maximum wind speed below 16 mph.
However, while the research indicates the best days to sit outside with a pint, some Brits may be disappointed – as the experts say that this Bank Holiday Monday (May 6th) is not the optimal time for an alfresco beverage. In fact, those living in England will narrowly miss out on the perfect timing, as their best date is Tuesday (May 7th).
Of course, we can’t tell you how to spend your Bank Holiday though – so enjoy that beer garden if you want to!
While the optimum day for an outdoor pint in England is just a few days away, those in Wales will have to wait a little bit longer for their perfect moment on May 20th, while Northern Ireland can expect ideal conditions at the end of the month on May 30th. Scotland gets the short end of the stick, however, with their ideal day for an outdoor pint not coming until the Summer Solstice on June 21st.
Exact dates to start enjoying a drink in the garden
- England – Tuesday, May 7
- Wales – Monday, May 20
- Northern Ireland – Thursday, May 30
- Scotland – Friday, June 21
