The capital is basking in balms above 20C and there’s no sign of change on the horizon. One day this week is expected to be super hot and Londoners are in for a scorcher.

Saturday, June 21, is the day when temperatures will reach 32C in late afternoon from 3pm to 5pm, according to BBC Weather. Ironically, it’s also the first official day of summer.

The momentum will carry on into Sunday with a peak of 31C, before dipping slightly to a top temperature of 27C on Monday and rising back to 29C on Tuesday. The next week is forecast to be exceptionally dry, with the first sign of rainfall expected on Wednesday, June 25.

BBC Weather states: “Through this afternoon, some patches of cloud are set to develop, but it should still remain mostly sunny and very warm. Tonight is expected to remain dry with predominantly clear skies. Towards dawn, a few patches of cloud may develop.

“Tomorrow [Thursday] is expected to be another dry and settled day with plenty of sunshine and very little, if any, cloud cover. Very warm, even locally hot. Friday will see some patches of cloud through the day, but generally it is expected to be dry and sunny.

“Through Saturday and Sunday, it is expected to be dry and settled with prolonged periods of sunshine as high pressure remains in control over the weather. It may be breezy at times, particularly on Saturday. A warm to very warm period, locally hot on Saturday and Sunday.”

Tonight (Wednesday Night)

  • The night will remain dry with predominantly clear skies. Winds will ease, becoming light and calm, making for a tranquil evening. Towards dawn, a few patches of cloud may develop, and there is a slight chance of some very localised mist or fog forming. Temperatures will fall to a minimum of around 16C.

Thursday

  • Thursday is expected to be another dry and settled day with plenty of sunshine and almost no cloud cover. It will feel very warm, and in some inland areas, it may become locally hot by the afternoon. Winds will generally be light, although it may be breezier near the coast, where temperatures will be slightly lower but still warm. Highs could reach up to 31C.

Friday

  • Friday will continue the dry and sunny trend, with some patches of cloud developing at times. It will remain very warm, though temperatures may be a touch lower than on Thursday. Winds will stay mostly light to moderate, and overall it will be a fine day with a summery feel. High’s of 30C.

Saturday

  • Saturday is set to be dry and largely sunny, with high pressure continuing to dominate. While most places will stay dry, there is a slight chance of an isolated shower during the day. It will be very warm or hot, with temperatures likely peaking for the week. Breezy conditions may develop, particularly in open or coastal areas. Highs of 32C.

Sunday

  • Sunday will bring more dry and sunny weather, continuing the settled spell. Temperatures will remain very warm to hot, and while the vast majority of places will stay dry, there is a small risk of a stray shower. It may still be breezy at times, but this will do little to cool the overall warm conditions. Highs of 32C.
