London is set to sizzle once again with the return of 4-day heatwave – and we don’t have to wait long. While the capital recently saw thunderstorms and rain, temperatures are set to skyrocket into the early thirties for the rest of the week, according to the Met Office.

Things will kick off at around 3pm tomorrow (Thursday, July 10), when thermometers are predicted to climb to 31C. This will continue into Friday and the weekend, with a peak of 33C expected late on Saturday afternoon.

The sun will shine bright right through until Monday before the mercury dips to a much more pleasant 28C. There’s even a 30% of rain in some parts of the city, so cooling off slightly may even be achievable.

Hot, hot, hot days ahead

Today (July 9) will be the last time peak temperatures are below 30C until Tuesday, July 15. The sun will peak out from behind the clouds now and again, with heavier clouds setting in by night time.

Thursday, July 10 will be noticeably brighter than its predecessor, as sunny conditions are predicted from 5am until 8pm. The day will see a positively toasty 31C at 5pm so make sure you wear sun cream to any after-work drinks.

High humidity will set in on Friday, July 11 so your sleep may not be the most comfortable. From then until Sunday, London’s temperatures will not dip under 19C, with the city enjoying a scorching 33C on Saturday (July 12), later dropping to 29C two days later.

BBC Weather agrees for the most part but forecasts a high of just 30C on Saturday – and that even includes a gentle breeze. Here’s hoping! It’s weather experts instead think Monday will be warmer at 31C.

When is the next heatwave?

Another wave of high heat is expected between Thursday, July 17 and Tuesday, July 22. Here, whilst a little bit cooler, will see six straight days with highs of at least 28C, according to BBC Weather.

It’ll start at around 3pm on Thursday, where Londoners will enjoy sunny skies combined with a light wind. Temperatures will then dip slightly overnight before jumping up to 28C again on Friday evening.

Before this, the sunny spell will be interrupted by light clouds, with sunshine only breaking through for two hours before sunset at 9.15pm. Saturday follows a similar theme, although now the bright skies will be at the start of the day.

You’ll need to get out early to enjoy it as clouds will set in around midday. Sunday, July 20 will be mostly sunny, with a peak of 28C hitting at 4pm and continuing early into Monday evening.

Tuesday will be the warmest day of the second heatwave, reaching a high of 29C in the late-morning. A gentle breeze will come along with it and it’s likely rain will break the heat close to 2pm.
