Shoppers have left high praise for both watches on Amazon

As the new year approaches, fitness goals will be starting to take shape for many – whether that means getting outdoors, hitting the gym, or simply moving more each day. To help turn intention into habit, a reliable fitness watch can help track progress and keep motivation high.

For those looking to pick one up for less, Amazon is running discounts on two popular Fitbit devices – the Fitbit Charge 6 for £98 down from £139, and the Google Fitbit Versa 4 for £125 down from £179. Currently, both are 30% off.

The cheaper of the two, the Fitbit Charge 6, could make for an excellent first fitness watch. This compact tracker features built-in GPS and over 40 exercise modes, so it’s ideal for recording workout stats, runs, bike rides, and more.

The Fitbit Charge 6 is also water resistant to 50 metres, meaning it can be used in wet weather conditions as well as for swimming. The fitness watch has sensors to log a wide number of health metrics, with 24/7 heart rate tracking, including an ECG app.

It can also measure VO2 max to see how efficiently the body is using oxygen, SpO2 to check blood oxygen saturation levels, and skin temperature for tracking variations from baseline. For a little more money, shoppers could pick up the Fitbit Versa 4 from Amazon, which has a larger screen than the Charge 6.

This model is geared slightly more towards users looking for a hybrid smart watch and fitness tracker. It includes an altimeter not found on the Charge 6, but it can’t measure the user’s ECG or skin temperature.

Both watches include six months of Fitbit Premium, which gives access to trainer-led workouts and programmes. Also included are extra sleep tracking tools, a library of guided meditations and sleep sounds, plus deeper insights into overall health.

The Fitbit watches are compatible with both iOS and Android phones. They can be customised with a range of separately sold straps too, with options including silicone, stainless steel, nylon, and leather.

For an even cheaper option, shoppers could pick up a Fitbit Inspire 3 from Currys for £59.99, which is currently £25 off its usual price of £84.99. It has 20 different exercise modes, can be used to track heart rate, blood oxygen, skin temperature, and offers up to 10 days’ battery lif.

Those whose main fitness focus is running could consider the Garmin Forerunner 55 GPS smart watch, which Argos is selling for £149, down from £179. Offering up to two weeks of battery, the brand says it can be used to measure time, distance, pace, and speed during runs or walks using the built-in GPS, but it can also track other activities like swimming, HIIT, and breathwork.

However, many users are happy with their Fitbits and have left positive reviews on Amazon. One bought the Charge 6, commenting as part of a longer review: “I’ve been wearing this tracker daily and it’s been really handy for keeping on top of my steps, workouts and sleep.

“The screen is bright and clear, even outdoors, and the strap is comfortable enough to wear all day without irritation. The battery life is impressive, lasting me about a week before it needs charging, which is so much better than constantly plugging it in.”

Another customer left feedback on the Versa 4, saying: “Wonderful, great quality, great sleep tracker, and checks heart rate. Keeps track of steps and sends reminders. Good size. Very good value for money. Brightness is good.”

A second Versa 4 buyer added: “I bought this watch to monitor my heart rate whilst exercising. The heart rate readings compare well against my blood pressure monitor, and, now that I’m back fit enough to go to the gym, I’m able to monitor my heart rate mid-exercise. It’s comfy to wear and surprisingly non-sweaty when I get warmed up.”

One customer gave the Fitbit Charge 6 five stars, but commented on the accompanying app as part of a longer review: “The actual watch is fab. Comfy, light, fits well and does all the bits I want it to do. Display is fine, clear, easy to cycle through everything with a tap, and still keep the time there.

“The only minor con for me is the app. I found it a little awkward to set up, but I am a dinosaur when it comes to tech.” Another bought the Fitbit Versa 4, giving it four stars and saying: “I really like this Fitbit, particularly the colour and design.

“My only criticism is that with quite a hairy arm, I find the strap pulls hairs, which can be a bit uncomfortable. I really like the technology, however.”

The Fitbit Charge 6 (£98 down from £139) and the Fitbit Versa 4 (£125 down from £179) are available at Amazon.
