A Euros fan was left with a hotel nightmare after finding his bed was ‘made of cardboard’ – and things only got worse when they headed to a replacement property
A Euros fan has been left with a series of hotel horror stories after arriving at the property to find his bed was made of cardboard.
Taking to Twitter/X with their customer service complaints, user RoryB96 showcased the “absolute shambles of a situation” which left him and his pals wandering the streets of Germany late at night looking for appropriate accommodation. Their first property was described as an “absolute mess” by the football fan, who had headed off to see Scotland play in the tournament.
But their trip took a turn for the worse as they were left gathering their things and seeking out alternative places to stay and spent hours trying to figure out a solution for their miserable experience at the first property. It only got worse from there, according to Rory.
He wrote: “Not normally one to post customer service complaints on Twitter but me and the boys are in Germany for @EURO2024 and wait till you see the absolute shambles of a situation @bookingcom put us in last night. So at around half past 8 yesterday we turned up at the original property we booked through @bookingcom and the place was an absolute mess.
“One of the beds was made out of cardboard and also held together by duct tape. The 2nd bed was a sofa bed that was broken and disgusting.” After three hours on the phone, the boys were sent packing to a second property which seemed just as bad as the first. “Once we arrived, we were STUNNED by what we found.
“@bookingcom had sent us to a dungeon that must have been some sort of abandoned medical facility as there was hospital beds and industrial equipment lying around the entrance. We made our way into the property and we’re greeted by more industrial equipment, exposed chemicals, exposed cables and exposed pipes and to top it all off an axe that looked like something out of a murder film. The whole place had the vibes of a human trafficking horror film.
“After all of the above within the first 6 feet of the property we made our way through the rest of the gaff and continued to find hazard after hazard including access to a generator room. We got to the other end of the property and there was a serious smell of damp.” To make matters worse, the front door didn’t lock and the group found themselves spending £2,000 for their accommodation.
Rory later revealed they had successfully found accommodation in Cologne for the remaining four days. Users were left weighing up Rory and the group’s options and revealed they would rather stay in the cardboard bed accommodation than the damp horrors of their replacement. One wrote: “I’d have stayed in the first one after seeing the second place.”
Booking.com told The Mirror: “This is not the experience we would want for anyone booking a stay on our platform and are in touch with the customer, so we can look into what happened and to make sure they are properly supported.”
