People watching the Euros in a pub in Leeds over the weekend hilariously stuck around to watch reruns of The Chase on a big screen following the conclusion of the Belgium v Romania match

Football fans stuck around to watch reruns of The Chase in a pub following the Euros matches on Saturday (June 22).

The Brudenell Social Club, Leeds’ legendary music venue that has played host to Yard Act, The Last Dinner Party and Tom Tom Club, set up a big screen outside for members of the public to enjoy the fixtures. But following the conclusion of Belgium v Romania on Saturday evening, the venue wasn’t sure what to play – and decided upon a classic British quiz show.

A post to Twitter/X showed the giant screen with a Brudenell Social Club banner above it and Bradley Walsh staring at those in attendance. The tweet was captioned: “I don’t think they knew exactly what to put on the big screen after the football, so we’re now watching a repeat of The Chase on a massive screen.”

Some X users praised the venue for “doing exactly what I would if I was at home” and turning over to The Chase. One said it was their “dream” to sit and watch The Chase in a pub, while another wrote: “I mean, it’s kinda standard for the Brudenell.” A third wrote: “Finally, a social club that seems worth joining.”

Others recalled similar bizarre experiences of big screens showing something you wouldn’t typically expect. One wrote: “There used to be a massive screen in Liverpool city centre and one day they just had the snooker on. People shopping while John Virgo criticised a safety shot.”

Another said they had been in a pub when reruns of Stephen Mulhern’s show Catchphrase came on, which they preferred over watching the football. They wrote: “Was in a pub [once] that put Catchphrase on after the match had finished. We enjoyed it more than the football tbh.” A final social media user joked: “And they say British people have no culture????”
