Many of us pick our knives and forks without batting an eyelid – but one person claims our choice can actually unveil more about our personalities than we realise
The piece of cutlery you pick from this photo will unveil what personality traits you have, according to a bizarre new TikTok.
Many of us dig into dinner without thinking twice about the styles of knife and fork we’re using. But it’s claimed our subconscious choice may mean more than we realise, with each design hinting at something deep inside of us.
This unexpected revelation was shared by psychology TikToker Odd.Ballz (@odd.ballz), who posted a seemingly simple image of four forks lined up in a row on a table. While the differences between them may seem unnoticeable at first, taking a look at their handles will tell you all you need to know.
On the left lies the smallest fork of all, with a dotted, rounded border following its outline before breaking away towards the prongs. The largest fork then sits beside this, distinguished by its rounded edges and basic design with no pattern shown at all.
And finally, two square handled forks are amid the line-up. Although the one on the left had no pattern at all, its neighbour flaunted a very intricate swirly design.
“Which fork are you choosing?” Odd.Ballz asked his 1.2million followers. “Fork one – this fork is more ornate with detailed patterns etched into its handle. Those who choose this fork may have a flair for the arts and a great appreciation for beauty.
“They are often creative, expressive and have a rich inner life. Fork two – this is a fork that’s sturdy and simple with no embellishments. If you choose this fork, you likely appreciate functionality and efficiency above all else. You may have a down-to-earth and practical personality.”
Moving on to fork three, the TikToker explained that it is a ‘modern’, ‘minimalist’ and ‘avant garde’ piece of cutlery – meaning that it’s almost a trend-setter, breaking away from expectations. Selecting this fork apparently means you may be forward-thinking and open to new ideas.
Inventive and curious individuals are more likely to pick it too, the video adds – especially those who get a kick out of challenging the status quo. Odd.Ballz continued: “Fork four – this fork is antique and has a touch of nostalgia to it. If you choose this fork you likely have a deep appreciation for history, tradition and the wisdom of the past. You might be thoughtful, reflective and enjoy meaningful conversations.”
Unsurprisingly, this has since racked up thousands of comments on TikTok, with many users divided over which is the ‘best fork’. One person wrote: “I picked one because it looked like it weighed less…I don’t like heavy forks,” as others added: “Two, why pick another one?”, and: “Picked four cus it looked thicker.”
Meanwhile, others weren’t convinced by the explanations behind each item. One user said: “The description is wrong… none of this makes sense,” while another wrote: “It depends on what I am eating!”
