A former intelligence officer from Waltham Abbey has been jailed for 18 months, after child and animal pornography images were found at his home.

Adam Taylor, 44, of Waltham Abbey, was sentenced on Friday (August 2) for making indecent images of children, possessing extreme images, and misconduct in a public office.

Taylor was arrested by officers from the National Crime Agency’s Anti-Corruption Unit in April 2022, after it was found out that an IP address linked to his home was accessing illegal content.

During searches of his house, a large number of laptops, tablets and other electronic storages devices were found to contain more than 700 indecent images of children, and another 200 of extreme pornography or bestiality.

Taylor, who had been working for the NCA since 2014, was immediately suspended and later dismissed from the NCA for gross misconduct. Some images were found on a computer Taylor had been given for work purposes.

“The NCA is committed to protecting children from sexual abuse, wherever in the world it is happening. We are determined to ensure there is no safe haven for perpetrators, including and especially within law enforcement, ” said NCA Director General (Operations) Rob Jones.

“NCA officers from our Anti-Corruption Unit carried out a meticulous, covert investigation which identified Taylor’s offending and ultimately brought him to justice.

“The NCA will work tirelessly to tackle corruption and breaches of our standards of professional behaviour, without fear or favour, wherever they occur.

“We welcome this custodial sentence which recognises the gravity of Taylor’s crimes.”

Taylor pled guilty to four counts relating to the images and two counts of misconduct in public office, at a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on June 12. He was bailed until his sentencing on Friday.
