Four lads shot to fame four years ago after taking an innocent snap together on a night out. The mates were rinsed due to their tight-fitting clothes but have now transformed their looks entirely

The year of 2020 was a turbulent time for everyone – but even more so for these four lads.

Alex Lacey, Kevin Rooney, Connor Humpage and Jamie Philips had been having drinks at the New Street Station bar in Birmingham before snapping a photo together back in 2019. Little did they know that very same picture would soon take the entire world by storm the next year.

All donned in particularly tight-fitting jeans and equally body-clinging shirts, the lads shot to fame and became the (multiple) faces of thousands of memes – from editing Boris Johnson’s face as a fifth member to berating them for loving Peaky Blinders. The lads got so much traction they even ended up having a temporary statue erected in their honour.

Now, it appears the Four Lads in Jeans have had a bit of a transformation.

Revealing the new look with the caption “2024 upgrade” – the boys have gone viral once again as they ditched their ultra-tight garments for a more relaxed style. Three of the blokes have opted for baggier straight-legged jeans, while one has swapped out his ripped black skinnies for combat chinos.

Their about-to-burst shirts have also been replaced with a simple white tee – whilst a trench coat, North Face gilet, and grey hoodie complete their ensemble. And of course, the internet had even more opinions…

“They were no longer four lads in jeans. They were four men,” one X (Twitter) user wrote. Another argued Birmingham should name a bar after the group – while a third added: “Actually a glow up.”

Many also pointed out the fickle nature of fast fashion, and how quickly trends become ridiculed after gaining popularity. “It’s actually mad how fashion trends evolve,” one person wrote. Another added: “Ah, the evolution from Topshop and BooHoo Man to Palm Angels and North Face. A classic timeline, typically executed.”
