Fourth man arrested at Stansted Airport over alleged arson attacks linked to Keir Starmer

A fourth man has been arrested as the Met investigates a series of fires in North London, including at a property linked to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The suspect, 48, was taken in earlier today (Monday, June 2) at London Stansted Airport.

He was initially stopped under schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act, 2000, before being arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life and is at a London police station.

It comes after a car fire in the early hours of May 8, the fire in the entrance of a house on May 11 and one at a property the day after. At one point, a length of the Kentish Town street was cordoned off to all vehicles.

Three men have already been charged. They are: Roman Lavrynovych, 21, of Sydenham, a Ukrainian national who was charged with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life.

The second is Stanislav Carpiuc, 26, of Romford, was charged with conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. Petro Pochynok 34, of north London, was charged with conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life.

All three have been remanded in custody to next appear at the Old Bailey on Friday, June 6.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “On Monday, May 12 at 1.35am police were alerted by the London Fire Brigade to reports of a fire at a residential address. Officers attended the scene.

“Damage was caused to the property’s entrance, nobody was hurt. The fire is being investigated and cordons remain in place while enquiries continue.”

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a small fire outside a property in Kentish Town this morning. The Brigade was called at 1.11am and the fire was under control by 1.33am.

“Two fire engines from Kentish Town Fire Station attended the scene.”
