A large number of Asda Express shops will soon be opening across London. There will be 10 new stores across the capital opening across a four-week period beginning in late October.
There will be a new store near Tower Bridge, as well as in Greenwich, at Limehouse Station and other locations in North, South, East and West London. The work will be part of a wider plan to bring 20 new Asda Express stores to locations up and down the UK.
Asda Express stores typically stock up to 3,000 branded and own-label products to suit a broad range of customer needs including ‘top up’ shops for essential items such as milk and bread, grabbing lunch on the go or cooking dinner from scratch. The stores offer prices that are “notably lower than competitor convenience stores” which means they often outperform other chains, says the retailer.
MyLondon visited the Asda Express in Tottenham Hale when it opened at the end of 2022 and gave it four-star review. Our reporter was a ‘huge fan of the Asda Express’ adding: “Unlike Sainsbury’s Local, Little Waitrose and Tesco Express, the new convenience store offers a totally different experience to a big Asda – it’s sleek, sexy, and fun.”
Asda is focusing on expanding with shops in high-footfall urban areas, residential locations, and transport hubs – sites where the chain has traditionally had limited presence. David Lepley, Chief Supply Chain Officer, commented: “We’re thrilled to kick off the next phase of our Express rollout and bring our heritage in delivering outstanding value to more locations across the UK.
“In just three years, we’ve grown from zero convenience stores to establishing a major presence in the channel, with almost 500 stores by the end of the year. This continued investment reflects the confidence we have in our convenience strategy and our focus on bringing Asda’s low prices to more local communities.”
Asda launched its first Express store in 2022, before pausing the launch of standalone Express sites while it focused on converting 469 stores acquired from the Co-op and EG Group.
