Dates for Eid ul Adha dates have now been announced across the world.

The festivity, also known as Eid al-Adha, Greater Eid, Qurbani Eid and Bakra Eid, is on the 10th day of the 12th month, Dhul Hijjah, and lasts for around three days. Based on a lunar calendar, Islamic dates move forward by 10 or 11 days each year.

Reports coming in from around the world suggest it will be Eid ul Adha either on June 6 or 7, depending where you are and which declarations you follow. Here’s a list of all the moonsightings and dates that are known so far.

Countries observing Eid ul Adha on June 6

UK: Reports of the crescent being seen, including photographic evidence, came in from a number of locations, and there were several confirmations of the date, BirminghamLive reports.

Forecasts said the moon would be visible under perfect conditions. Breaks in the clouds at sunset after a generally rainy and overcast day allowed the slim crescent to be seen with binoculars and also just with the naked eye.

However, some organisations follow Saudi Arabia reports instead which this year set the same date, meaning the rare occurrence of a ‘united Eid’ in the UK.

Saudi Arabia: Officials announced that the moon had been sighted. The country’s predetermined calendar had already set a date of June 6, and forecasts said the crescent would only be visible if using optical aids such as telescopes.

Australia: Religious authorities in Australia aligned themselves with the Saudi reports, saying they were “conscious of keeping the Muslim community united, particularly during Islamic occasions and celebrations.”

United Arab Emirates: It was reported that the moon signalling the start of Dhul Hijjah and determining the next Eid had been sighted.

Oman: The Oman News Agency in the Gulf state confirmed there had been a sighting of the moon, meaning that Eid ul Adha will be on June 6.

Qatar: A report from Qatar News confirmed that the date of Eid ul Adha would be June 6.

Indonesia: The Ministry of Religion confirmed a sighting of the crescent, indicating that Eid ul Adha will be celebrated on June 6.

Countries observing Eid ul Adha on June 7

Morocco: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs confirmed that the moon was NOT sighted on the night of May 27, meaning that Dhul Hijjah won’t start until May 29 and Eid ul Adha will be on June 7.

The North African country is usually aligned with the UK for its Muslim dates, but not this year. Morocco has also cancelled the Eid ul Adha ritual sacrifice of livestock due to the ongoing effects of drought on the nation’s agriculture. Find out more here.

Malaysia and Brunei: The crescent moon was not sighted either in Malaysia or the adjoining Sultanate of Brunei. Eid ul Adha 2025 will therefore be on Saturday, June 7, in both those countries.

Pakistan: The nation’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened in Islamabad on May 27 and announced that the moon was not sighted, which means Dhul Hijjah starting on May 29 and Eid ul Adha on June 7.

India: Moonsightings took place across India on the evening of May 28, and an announcement was made that the crescent was seen. Therefore, Eid ul Adha falls on June 7.

Nigeria: The Sultanate Council has announced the sighting of the crescent moon in Nigeria on May 28. Therefore, May 29, 2025, is the first day of Dhul Hijjah and Eid ul Adha will be on June 7.
