Two thugs have been jailed for life after the murder of a helpless dad in a London Underground station. Kevin Nguyen and Milumo Pedrinho, of Westerfield Road and Stonebridge Road, respectively, chased Ervin Baraku down the station’s stairs before stabbing him on July 23, 2024.

Nguyen, 21, was slapped with a minimum 18-year sentence on Thursday (August 28) at Inner London Crown Court after previously being found guilty of murder on June 12. Pedrinho, also aged 21, was handed a minimum of 17 years after he pleaded guilty to the same offence on April 24.

The pair had gotten into an altercation with the 33-year-old on the street minutes before Ervin was killed, with Pedrinho seen following him with a large knife. Ervin tripped as he scrambled to escape and was knifed once in the chest, collapsing at the top of the stairs as his attackers fled.

Paramedics arrived and rushed Ervin to hospital, where he died of his injuries a week later on July 30. Police used CCTV footage, which showed Pedrinho with a large knife, to track down the pair.

Nguyen was the first to be arrested when detectives arrived at his home address the day after the attack. Pedrinho was tracked down and detained a few days later on July 27.

‘Brutes left a devastating hole in the lives of Ervin’s family’

Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said: “This was an absolutely senseless and tragic attack that resulted in a father, a brother, and a son losing his life. The actions of Pedrinho and Nguyen will forever leave a devastating hole in the lives of Ervin’s family and friends, so I am pleased to see them both receive a significant prison sentence for their barbaric actions that day.

“While no prison sentence can ever make up for the loss of a loved one, I hope justice being served can bring Ervin’s family some peace after this horrific ordeal.

“I also hope the sentence serves as a reminder that there will never be a place for violence on the railway network, and we will continue to do everything we to ensure dangerous offenders are held to account.”
