Gabriel Jesus has shared an insight into his recovery from a serious knee injury sustained earlier this year.
The Arsenal striker suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the FA Cup clash against Manchester United on January 12 and is not expected to return to action until late in 2025. The Brazilian was forced to undergo surgery but in recent months has been back in the gym as he steps up his recovery plan.
It’s possible Jesus will still fly to Asia to be a part of the Gunners’ pre-season tour in late July. Although he will play no part in matches, being in and around the group will lift Jesus’ morale, with Mikel Arteta showing in the past that he is keen to keep the group together as much as possible.
Jesus took to social media on Monday to share how his recovery is going, with the former Manchester City man moving freely around the gym. “It’s been 6 months since the surgery, it’s great to be able to move around like this again,” Jesus said on X.
Alongside the post, Jesus shared a 36-second video of himself performing a number of exercises, clearly designed to strengthen the knee and the rest of his body. Pictured in Arsenal’s training kit, the striker at one point can be seen running on a anti gravity treadmill.
The update is a huge boost to Arteta ahead of the 2025/26 season, which starts against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 17. Jesus is not expected to return until the end of 2025 and by that time Arsenal could well have a new striker in their ranks.
Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are two players who have been targeted by the Gunners, although RB Leipzig and Sporting CP are yet to budge on their high asking prices. Andrea Berta and Arteta are believed to want to wrap up a striker signing before July 19, which is the date the squad jet off to Singapore.
Jesus had scored seven goals in 27 appearances before sustaining the injury last season and was beginning to find some form. The 28-year-old’s absence coincided with Kai Havertz picking up a serious hamstring injury, which also required surgery. It meant Arteta was forced to deploy Mikel Merino in the striker role for the final few months of the season.
