Galaxy is a popular chocolate brand in the UK, known for its smooth milk texture, but the company has released a new product that has left many fans questioning what the point of it is
Galaxy chocolate fans have been left unimpressed by one of the brand’s new products. It’s common for companies to bring out seasonal, limited edition or new items, such as Cadbury’s new Twirl flavour, but they can sometimes leave shoppers divided.
Hot chocolate is a favourite drink for many during colder months and Galaxy recently unveiled its green-coloured white hot chocolate. This is a spin-off from its classic instant hot chocolate drink that just required water to be added. The new product is green in colour but has a white chocolate flavour. New Foods UK, known for finding the newest foods and treats since 2017, shared a picture on Instagram of the latest Galaxy hot chocolate with the caption: “New Galaxy green white hot chocolate spotted at Home Bargains.”
The post has garnered more than 700 likes and a number of comments and the UK food blogger also shared it on Facebook.
On Instagram and Facebook, users questioned why the hot chocolate is green. One asked: “Is this meant to be for Halloween or something because otherwise what’s the point?”
Another added: “Why does it need to be green though? I’d drink it expecting it to taste like peppermint or something and end up severely disappointed every time.”
A third user commented: “Seems a bit pointless if it [is] just a different colour. You would at least expect it to be a different flavour.”
Someone else replied: “I was thinking the same.”
There were a few positive comments amongst the criticism though as one argued: “I think it’s more to be fun for the kids.”
Another foodie said they were “super intrigued”, while someone else pointed out it was “good for Halloween”.
Joanne Szrok, a mum from Portsmouth, shared a post on Instagram making and trying out the Galaxy green white hot chocolate.
Reading out the instructions, she began by adding four heaped teaspoons to a mug before pouring boiling hot water from the kettle over the powder and then giving it a good stir to combine the two ingredients.
She had a sip and gave her verdict: “It just tastes like white hot chocolate. It has got quite an artificial taste, which I was expecting but I have to say, the colour is quite off-putting.”
However, she noted that the green shade of the drink is “super fun” for children and shared that her children will love it for Halloween, if they like the flavour.
A number of shoppers feel the green colour is unnecessary as it doesn’t have a distinct flavour to match its bold appearance, such as mint, pistachio or matcha.
Matcha, originating from Japan, is a finely ground powder of green tea and has a unique green colour. This beverage has skyrocketed in popularity in the US and UK where it features in plenty of coffee shops and cafes, as well as supermarkets, including Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.
The Galaxy green white hot chocolate has been spotted in Home Bargains for ÂŁ2.79.
