Gardening experts have shared the best way to fix brown patches on your lawn quickly and easily – and it doesn’t involve having to use fertiliser or grass seed

A gardening guru has dished out top tips for banishing those unsightly brown patches on your lawn, promising “instant results”.

As Wimbledon fever grips the nation, all eyes are on the iconic grass courts. The hallowed turf at SW19 is preened to perfection over 12 months, with a whopping nine tonnes of seed sown annually to achieve that flawless finish. But back in Blighty’s backyards, achieving such verdant velvet is no mean feat, especially when battling the capricious British climate, boisterous kids, pets, and the odd sun lounger.

Brown and yellow blotches are the bane of many a gardener’s life, often the result of fungal foes, doggy doings, drought, or fertiliser faux pas, reports the Express. In light of this, the green-fingered gurus at Yell have tapped into the wisdom of gardener and landscaper Simon Akeroyd for his quick-fix secrets to a patch-free paradise.

Lawns can suffer from patchiness and thinning, sometimes even developing holes that mar their beauty. Simon advises that for an “efficient” solution to these pesky patches, reaching for lawn seed is your best bet. He recommends: “Sowing seeds for small patches is a cheap and efficient way to fix any patches in your lawn.”

He adds that the prime time for this task is late summer/early autumn or spring, as it cuts down on watering needs. But beware of birds eyeing up your seeds, he warns. Simon noted that for those seeking quicker results, laying down turf is the way to go, saying: “You will get faster, more instant results if you lay turf down over the patches.”

He cautioned, however, “However, this does require more watering if the weather is dry, which is more expensive.” To maintain a pristine lawn, he recommends regular upkeep including overseeding, aerating, scarifying and feeding.
