A TikToker has shared a simple trick to ensure you get ‘hot and fresh’ McDonald’s fries every time – but some aren’t too happy with his method as it ‘holds up the line’
Ever been to McDonald’s and felt the fries weren’t as crisp or hot enough as you’d like?
Well, this could be a distant memory thanks to one TikToker who claims to have stumbled across a hack to ensure your chips are as fresh and warm as possible every single time. Fast food aficionado @healthyjunkfood prides himself on reviews and sharing neat hacks, including the above tip specifically for diners using the drive-thru. He claims not only will his trick mean the fries are ‘hot and fresh’ but can also be ‘extra salty’ too. So how does it work?
Though it may seem initially odd, all you need to do when giving your order is to request unsalted fries. In the video, he says: “Next time you hit up the drive-through ask for a medium fry with no salt. We all know they will make it fresh and hot this way, but the new hack is when you roll up to the window and politely ask them for a medium cup and salt packets.”
If you do this, @healthyjunkfood says your order will be freshly made, and all you need to do is then add your own salt.

“Pour a few salt packets into the cup, dump in your fries and shake them up,” he explained. “With the residual oil, the salt will stick to the fries nicely giving you hot, fresh salted fries.”
And as if this wasn’t genius enough, the cup of fries will fit neatly in your car’s cup holder for a snack on the go. He added: “You can also secure the fries in the cup holder in your car. How convenient.”
While the hack got its fair share of admirers in the comments section, not everyone was as impressed. A McDonald’s employee commented on the viral video: “I work at McDonald’s bro, they [are] usually always fresh. I work morning and night.”
Another said: “You can also just ask for the fries to be [cooked] to order. They put them down when you order.”
A third said: “Don’t do this, the workers hate this. Just ask them to be cooked fresh”.
While others chimed in with: “Holding up the line, for that?”; “All you have you do is just ask for fresh fries” and “Ok the fries in the cup so they fit in the holder is genius, but the other stuff? Nah. Just ask for fresh fries!”
