giffgaff has beaten Sky Mobile with a much cheaper unlimited data deal

Shoppers who might have purchased their handset outright and require a solid SIM-only package could be in for a treat, as we’ve discovered some brilliant unlimited data offers to grab.

Sky has recently revealed it’s providing its unlimited data SIM for £24. This allows mobile users to enjoy limitless data without having to fork out a small fortune monthly. The monthly cost matches O2 and undercuts EE’s ‘Unlimited No Frills’ bundle (costing £27 per month), though it’s not the most affordable option available.

However, we’ve spotted a deal that’s even cheaper. As giffgaff launches a hard-to-beat unlimited data deal. Now £15 a month instead of the usual £25 monthly rate, it’s one of the cheapest ways to get the infinite data amount, reports the Daily Record.

Slashing £9 from competitors O2 and Sky’s monthly charge, giffgaff customers will shell out £15 monthly. Giffgaff is branding it their “best deal yet” on an 18-month agreement. Nevertheless, one advantage of the Sky agreement is that the data package runs for just 12 months, which could suit those wanting to browse alternatives better.

According to Uswitch, giffgaff delivers rapid connections at an attractive cost. Similar to Tesco Mobile, it operates on O2’s infrastructure and provides 3G and 4G mobile coverage and speeds matching O2.

Sky Mobile also utilises O2’s mobile network. So wherever O2 maintains a signal, Sky Mobile does as well. Currently, this delivers customers 4G coverage across more than 98% of the UK population outdoors on both services.

However, for those seeking alternatives, there’s plenty on offer. Tesco Mobile is running a major sale on its data packages, providing unlimited data for £20 monthly on a 24-month contract.

iD Mobile also provides the same unlimited data package for £8 monthly on a 24-month contract for the initial three months. The cost then rises to £16 for the remainder of the plan.

Regarding reviews, SIMSherpa awarded Sky Mobile 3.5 stars out of five for its mobile coverage and performance. They said: “We’ve always found being on Sky Mobile very slick. The network basics are right. Great coverage, WiFi calling / 4G calling, and even eSIM now. Data speeds do let them down a little, though.

“If you travel outside Europe, Sky’s roaming charges work out cheaply. Unfortunately, offering no inclusive EU roaming means we’ve had to give Sky Mobile a worse score than previously, though. Sky’s extra benefits are among the best. You’ll get unlimited data for streaming Sky TV apps. Keep unused data for 3 years and trade it in for rewards. Sky VIP is nice too. And their phone contracts are very flexible. Overall, Sky Mobile offers the quality you’d expect from Sky.”

It also awarded giffgaff a comparable – albeit slightly lower review at 3 stars out of five. They added: “There’s no denying the main point of joining giffgaff is to get O2’s coverage in a more economical way than joining directly. Many also like how giffgaff is run like a community and are fiercely loyal.

“But there are better alternatives available. giffgaff doesn’t do speed well. They’re the slowest provider on average. They don’t do WiFi calling or VoLTE well, either; now, they’ve finally started offering them.

“Though it’s not all doom and gloom. We like that you can get an eSIM. It’s good to see EU roaming still included. And both giffgaff’s phone contracts and SIM only plans are commendably flexible.”
