A grandma who ‘looks 20 years younger than she is’ has shared the secrets to her eternal youth, and it’s good news for those on a budget, because she doesn’t spend a fortune taking care of herself

A glamorous granny has shared her secrets to eternal youth after many have commented on her good looks, saying she seems to be in her fifties, rather than 72. Lorraine Cassar looks so young that she often gets mistaken for her 55-year-old daughter Sherree’s sister, which is every older woman’s dream.

Lorraine turns heads wherever she goes, thanks to her youthful appearance, and the retired carer has a few tips she recommends if you want to achieve a similar look. Ultimately, it’s good news, as she puts it down to some basics, rather than a 20-step skincare regimen and constant beauty treatments.

She says that the things that keep her young are using SPF, a cheap moisturiser, a healthy diet packed full of fruit and vegetables, and not having sex.

“I use face sunscreen, a cheap basic drugstore moisturiser, and I don’t overcomplicate my skin care routine,” Lorraine, from Melbourne, Australia, shared.

Lorraine also said that she eats “lots of fruits and veggies,” and says that “not getting laid in 20 years has helped”.

“I don’t really hang onto people complimenting me and saying I look younger because I don’t like too much attention,” she claimed.

Talking about the resemblance to her daughter Lorraine added: “A waiter told me and my daughter could pass for siblings just the other day.

“It’s not the best compliment for Sherree because there’s an 18-year age gap”.

Lorraine’s granddaughter, Paris, 26, says her friends are always stunned when they find out her gran’s real age.

Paris explained: “Anytime I introduce friends or colleagues to her, they’re always amazed, even when talking to her, cause she’s so young at heart and quick-witted.

“There have been so many times when people have assumed she’s my mum.

“It’s also nice to see that I’ll age gracefully.

“People will often say that my genetics are rock solid and to never worry about ageing.”

She added: “My grandma doesn’t just look young and beautiful, she exudes it in her attitude and kindness.

“She is an incredible inspiration, and I thank my lucky stars every day that she is my grandma and she is the matriarch of the most entertaining, charismatic, incredible family that I’ve been born into.

“She brought my mum into this world and shaped her and me as the courageous women we are today”.

How you can look younger, according to the NHS

The NHS has shared seven ways to age (almost) in reverse.

They say that one of the most important things that you can do to age well is to get a good amount of sleep. Adults should be getting between seven and nine hours of sleep per night.

You should strive for a specific balance of nutrients, most of which can be derived from a plateful of colourful foods and a palm-sized serving of lean protein with each meal. That’s not to say that you can’t indulge in the occasional treat as long as you’re smart about your choices.

It’s also important to stay active, both physically and mentally.

Adults should aim to:

  • Do strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms) on at least 2 days a week
  • Do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week
  • Spread exercise evenly over 4 to 5 days a week, or every day
  • Reduce the time spent sitting or lying down and break up long periods of not moving with some activity

You can also achieve your weekly activity target with:

  • Several short sessions of very vigorous intensity activity
  • A mix of moderate, vigorous and very vigorous intensity activity
