Police are hunting the owner of a dangerous dog that mauled a greyhound to death in South London last week. The pet, reportedly called Juno, was attacked in Mountfields Park, in the area of Lewisham, just before 9.15pm on Tuesday, June 17.

She later passed away due to the severity of her injuries. An investigation is now underway to identify and locate those responsible.

A social media picture, supposedly taken at the scene in Hither Green, shows a Bullmastiff or Pit Bull-looking dog but this detail has not been confirmed by the Metropolitan Police.

The force is now urging witnesses, or people with relevant information, to come forward. Anyone with knowledge of the attack should contact 101, quoting CAD 8545/17June. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said; “On June 17 at 9.13pm police were called to reports of a dog attacking another dog at Mountfield Park. Officers attended the scene and made enquiries. The dog sadly later died from its injuries as a result of the attack.

“An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to locate and identify the other dog and their owner.”
