A man in his 40s died after being hit by a car, but the driver sped away

It’s been another brutal week for London with gunfire, stabbings, and a hit-and-run.

A 36-year-old woman was shot in Walthamstow, while Brixton saw two 16-year-olds injured during a fight involving a knife, and over in West London a 16-year-old was knifed in the arm. A hit-and-run left one man dead in Westminster, while a separate car smashed into a group of fighting men in a horror brawl which was shared online.

But despite the grim news, June, July, and August saw the fewest killings in London since 2018, making London safer than all major US cities and Paris – check out what a former top cop had to say when we asked him why. Havering, Enfield, Southwark, Tower Hamlets and Camden recorded some of the greatest reductions, and last year London recorded the lowest number of killings of under-25s for 22 years, and the lowest number of teenage homicides since 2012.

There have been 10 under-25 killings recorded so far this year, compared with 26 at the same point last year – a drop of over 60 per cent.
