Looking after your skin is really important, and one skincare guru has warned that wearing make-up on a plane can have disastrous consequences for a number of reasons

For many, getting glam for the airport is part of the travelling experience.

Putting on a new cute outfit and spending a considerable amount of time on make-up isn’t uncommon for holiday-goers – after all, you want to arrive at your destination looking good. However, there’s a reason you shouldn’t be wearing make-up on the plane, as “flying is terrible for your skin” according to skincare guru @dthekorean.

In a TikTok video, he explained why you should opt for products such as moisturiser on the plane, rather than piling on foundation, concealer, bronzer and the rest. “Going on an airplane is literally one of the worst things you can do to your skin, so here are a couple of tips you can use so you can glow,” he said.

He said that you should “never wear make-up on a plane because it will dry out your skin and your skin will get oily to compensate for the dryness, and your make-up is gonna look all pasty”.

He also shared that you will look “dull and colourless” after a flight, because being “so high up prevents blood flow to your face”, so doing “a couple of squats” will help to bring the blood flow back throughout the body. He also pointed out that you’re “30,000 feet closer to the sun”, so it’s really important to wear your SPF and close windows when you can.

In the comments, a former flight attendant wrote: “As a former flight attendant, I 100% agree with the sunscreen part! Since we must wear make-up, I have found ways to keep it intact.”

Another said: “Not me watching this while wearing make-up on a plane.” Someone else questioned whether it was good to do skincare on the plane. They wrote: “I’ve seen people do skincare on the plane but I wasn’t sure if that’s good because of the air. I read that it just traps the recycled air into your skin.”
