A man decided to compare the most expensive sandwiches from Harrods and Fortnum & Mason to see which was the most worth it – and he was left surprised by the results
A man visited upmarket department stores Harrods and Fortnum & Mason to pit their priciest sandwiches against each other – and discovered a definitive victor. Harrods stands as a legendary shop, housed within a Grade II listed building on Brompton Road in Knightsbridge, Central London. It’s renowned and cherished for premium and designer fashion and accessories, alongside its fine jewellery, furniture, food and beyond.
Likewise, Fortnum & Mason boasts equal historical significance and fame – particularly as the official purveyor to the royal family. The department store has earned recognition for its hampers, plus its exquisite wine, chocolates, teas and additional offerings. Products are wrapped in its immediately identifiable teal packaging.
Both establishments prove especially attractive to tourists and visitors, as each provides an authentically British encounter and a genuine taste of classic opulence.
Content creator Carmino Sellitto chose to examine the stores’ most expensive sandwiches to establish which represented, in his view, the best bang for his buck.
He nipped into Fortnum & Mason and grabbed its £20 cream cheese bagel featuring caviar. Caviar – consisting of salt-cured fish roe – carries a notoriously hefty price tag.
In a clip shared on TikTok, Carmino remarked: “How can a sandwich even be that expensive?”
He then removed it from its packaging and divided the bagel in two, displaying the contents to the camera.
Carmino said: “I can’t even lie, that actually looks beautiful. It’s a plain bagel with cream cheese and caviar. That’s literally it.”
After taking a bite, he was clearly impressed, and shared: “Not to be dramatic or anything, I was not expecting to like this as much as I do. How can something so plain and simple taste this good?”
Next up, he showcased Harrods’ Wagyu Katsu Sando to his viewers. This £28 sandwich is crafted with the famously expensive Wagyu beef, as well as truffle butter, gold mustard mayonnaise, beer-braised onions, and mushrooms.
Carmino joked: “If my bank account could speak, I can only imagine what it would be saying to me right now.”
He claimed the sandwich smelt “unreal” smell and, after tasting it, added: “The flavours I’m getting from this sandwich are absolutely insane.”
After sampling both of the high-end sandwiches, Carmino decided to rate them based on whether he’d purchase them again, declaring Fortnum & Mason’s sandwich the victor.
In the caption accompanying his video, Carmino simply wrote: “This actually really surprised me.”
Meanwhile in the comments section, viewers were eager to share their thoughts. One person quipped: “I’m so poor I have no idea what Fortnum and Mason is.”
Another commented: “I would try both – & go hungry rest of the week.”
A third viewer noted: “The caviar is not basic bro- it’s a rich person’s food.”
One social media user gushed: “Sandwiches = my favourite food. Looking at fancy sandwiches = my new favourite viewing.”
Another TikTok user revealed: “Travelling to London for the first time in October, and after watching your videos, I think I will be exclusively eating from Harrods.”
