Whether Prince Harry’s children Archie and Lilibet will ever play a role in the Royal Family is yet to be seen, but an insider has hinted at what the future might hold

Growing up in California, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are half a world away from their extended Royal Family and grandfather King Charles.

With Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry choosing, for the most part, to keep their two little ones out of the spotlight, they have made it clear they want their kids to retain their royal titles.

Archie, six, and four-year-old Lilibet are sixth and seventh in line to the throne respectively, and reports have claimed that despite quitting royal life themselves, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want it to be their children’s own choice whether or not they take on a royal position later in life, when they are grown up.

When reports first appeared in the Guardian that Harry still saw the possibility of a royal future for his children, if they wanted one, royal insiders were said to be pretty confused.

The Sunday Times reported shortly afterwards that there was “bemusement in royal circles” about the idea. “Under the next reign, roles for Archie and Lili as working royals are unlikely,” the report marking Prince William’s 43rd birthday claimed.

A recent report in the i Paper by royal expert Richard Palmer echoed these sentiments, noting that: “If Prince Harry and Meghan had stayed, they would have had a prominent role, but the chances of their children representing the British monarchy in the future are said to be negligible, and probably would have been even if their parents had remained.”

William is said to be keen to slim down the monarchy even further when it finally comes time for him to take the throne, making it closer in size and form to other European monarchies that have only a handful of working royals.

No extended members of his family will help out with official engagements, the report claimed, marking a major difference from the reign of his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth.

Even William and Kate’s two younger children might not act as full-time working royals, it has been suggested, with the potential that Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis might take up another occupation not dismissed by insiders.

The report comes as it has been revealed that Prince Harry will be returning to the UK and will reunite with his father, King Charles, for the first time in two years.

However, while the monarch might be making moves to reconcile with his son, Harry’s icy relations with his elder brother, Prince William, have yet to thaw, with the Prince of Wales declining to meet him whilst he is back in the country.
