Phone snatching is something most Londoners are very wary of, but one ‘victim’ saw the funny side
A thieving berk was gutted when he realised he’d nicked an M&S sandwich – and not a smartphone. The ordeal was shared by the bemused and peckish victim on a Reddit forum.
They’d bought a ham, cheese, and pickle sandwich from the Greenwich M&S by the Cutty Sark and were walking down the road while examining the fat content with both hands.
The ‘amoeba brained phone thief’ must have mistaken the stance for someone on their phone, and so cycled beside the victim, snatched the food and pedalled off.
But after getting about 20 feet away the disappointed idiot yelled something that sounded like “c*** bruv f***”, before throwing the sandwich onto the floor in a strop and riding off ‘in a right little huff’. And the best part? The sandwich hadn’t even been opened and was still good to eat.
Reddit users chose to look past the fact that there’s a phone thief on the loose in Greenwich and instead saw the funny side of things. One person wrote: “He thought he’d grabbed a phone, butty failed.”
And second wondered if there’s anything else he inadvertently pinched. “I wonder what other stuff they accidentally might steal? I see a fun opportunity here,” they said.
While a third proposed a humorous, but albeit slightly sinister solution which involves mousetraps. They said: “This is the one. Get some of those horrible mouse glue traps and stick them together in a phone shape.
“Leave an inch round the base so you don’t go flying off with the miscreant when he grabs it. Prepare for an afternoon of merry japes and giggles…” The botched phone robbery report comes as the British Transport Police says it will no longer investigate bicycle thefts outside stations where the bike has been left for longer than two hours.
The BTP said: “The more time our officers spend reviewing CCTV… the less time they have available for patrolling railway stations and trains, investigating crimes which cause the most harm.”
