Drivers stuck in traffic on the M25 were in luck when a fellow-stranded ice cream van driver was able to serve them ice cream during a 30 degree heatwave. A photograph captured the moment with drivers queuing outside the van for a cold dessert.

With temperatures of around 28C yesterday evening (Sunday, July 13). drivers on the M25 near the Dartford Tunnel were stuck in nose-to-nose traffic for around two hours after a reported crash. For those sat still in the tailbacks there were clearly worse places to be stranded as one of Piccadilly Whip Catering Limited’s fleet was also among the vehicles affected.

The team, which serves up ice creams to customers in London and Essex, was on the way back from a show in Eastbourne when traffic came to a standstill. Business owner John Bomar said: “The van got caught in traffic for a couple of hours and it was 30 degrees and they served non stop until the road reopened. Everyone was happy and they took as much money as at the show.”

Piccadilly Whip Catering posted a photograph of the endearing moment along with the caption: “When they shut the M25 for two hours and you have a non-stop queue, sometimes you have to turn the bad times into good times.”

A three-vehicle crash on the M25 halted traffic anti-clockwise between Junction 3 for the Swanley Interchange to Junction 2 for the Darenth Interchange near Dartford at around 6.05pm on Sunday night, reports KentOnline.

Kent Police told the news outlet: “The collision involved three vehicles. Officers and paramedics attended and a motorcyclist was taken to hospital with leg injuries. The road was temporarily closed and reopened shortly after 8pm.”
