EXCLUSIVE: Alexander Warren has been brought before a court after a MyLondon investigation named him as a suspect linked to a series of gruesome cat deaths across South London earlier this year

A former heavyweight boxer has denied five animal cruelty offences after a MyLondon investigation into cat deaths in South London. Alexander Warren, 38, appeared at Croydon Magistrates Court in October charged with causing unnecessary suffering to five cats and two dogs after a string of alleged attacks first reported by this newspaper in February.

Warren, of Rudhall House in Tulse Hill, faces claims that he allowed dogs Bella and Prince to harm cats in Lambeth, Southwark, and Brixton on five occasions, namely: November 5, 2024; January 8, 2025; and February 12, 13, and 21, in 2025. Court documents show the accusations also apply to alleged suffering by the dogs, who, it is understood, have since been removed.

The wording of each charge alleges Warren “caused unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, namely a cat, by a failure to act, namely to leash your dogs and prevent your dogs from attacking it and you knew or ought reasonably to have known that the failure would have that effect or be likely to do so”, contrary to the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

A court official told MyLondon Warren appeared at Inner London Crown Court last Friday (November 7), and has been released on unconditional bail until March 15 2027 to attend another hearing at the same court.

During our investigation, we learned cats had long been welcome in Brixton Market as a form of pest control, and were loved by locals, street cleaners, and market traders.

The RSPCA has said it was ‘incredibly saddened’ by the deaths and was making its own enquiries into the circumstances. The Met previously said local officers were taking concerns seriously.

Warren’s last professional fight, under the alias AJ Carter or ‘Big Dog’, came against Daniel Dubois in 2017 when he was knocked out in 48 seconds.

Speaking about the knockout on the Nothing But the Truth podcast in 2021, Warren said: “I’m glad that what happened happened”. Warren was approached for comment multiple times during the course of our investigation but did not respond.
