There are lots of hidden gems in the UK, including this beautiful little-known beach tucked away on the northwest coast of Scotland. Achmelvich Bay offers picturesque views for those visiting in the Scottish Highlands and it has been regarded as one of the best beaches in Scotland with crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches. It rivals scenes you’d find in the Caribbean – perhaps the only downside is you won’t get the same weather.
However, on sunny days Achmelvich Bay gets busy with the locals who all go to enjoy the beautiful beach, armed with picnics and beach games. The beach is located near the village of Lochinver in the Scottish Highlands and is a popular spot with water skiers according to the official Visit Scotland website.
Hidden away down a challenging single track road it also has many nearby walks and climbs, including the famous Suilven, for those interested in hiking and is a popular spot for keen fishers with cod, haddock, whiting, pollack, saithe and mackerel being common catches. Even visitors have rated it an impressive 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor, with many urging people to visit.
“This is an incredible beach that you must visit. It’s one of the best beaches in the UK. It looks stunning during sunny days and is a perfect spot for paddleboarding or enjoying water activities. There is so much to do and see that even when it’s busy, you can find a quiet spot on the cliffs where you can relax,” one visitor wrote.
Another penned: “Genuinely didn’t believe that beaches like this existed in Scotland. I’ve seen photos and heard rumblings but to see it firsthand was just amazing! For me, this was the best beach we had seen during our NC500 adventure. Clean, white sand held in by crystal blue water. It could easily have been on a Caribbean island (the weather made this even more apparent). “
TikToker David who goes by the name @scottishmaninavan shared his snaps when visiting the beach and said: “This is my favourite beach in Scotland.” One fan commented on the video: “Some beach David has been over a few times were from Fife proud to be Scottish.”
